  • Cicada humor! The unique traits of periodical cicadas have inspired countless jokes and comic strips. ​​
  • A tale of a dog who can’t stop eating the bugs published in the Washington Post: My name is Max, and I have a cicada problem 
  • In 1970 Bob Dylan was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Princeton University which is in Pennsylvania. It so happens that Brood X Periodical Cicadas emerged that spring. Dylan wrote a song about the "singing" he was hearing from the cicadas. However, at that time he referred to the cicadas as locusts (not uncommon in history).
